As the name suggests, it is a small laser engraving in the crystal at the 6 o’clock position, just above the hour marker. The best way to view the LEC is to take a flashlight and shine it from the 12 o'clock position to the 6 o'clock position. The light beam needs to be level with the crystal. I recently purchased a 2023 Oyster Perpetual 41mm 124300 from Chrono24. I’ve been wanting to find ways to check the authenticity. I’ve read a lot about the LEC on the glass. With 5-bit encoding we'd have enough bits to encode 30 characters in the LEC. With 6-bit encoding we'd have enough bits to encode 25 character. Rolex would probably use a few bits for parity, but that's more than enough to encode an encrypted 8-digit serial number.
I have a later model 14060M 4 liner that has an offset LEC and has since I got it and I’ve never even thought twice about getting it fixed. The LEC is as trivial to me as the lume on a Rolex. I don’t give a shit about either.
